A potty training update
I told you last week that we had started potty training and were under potty training house arrest. It was intense. It was a lot of work, but we have been sprung free and the kiddo is doing great!
Our first excursion was last Friday to the library’s Halloween costume parade and lunch. I told you about that on Friday. It did go well. On Saturday morning, we went on a few errands together to get my husband a hair cut, pick up a few things at the dollar store and even make a purchase at Toys R Us. I decided to let her go in her underwear. Overall, it went well. We didn’t have any accidents. We did have a slight meltdown as we were leaving Toys R Us because she very much wanted to get out of her stroller and used the bathroom as an excuse to do so, even though she’d already successfully gone when we got to the store. I wheeled my child out crying in her stroller. Of course, the bathroom is in the back of the store. It was the longest walk I’ve taken in a while. Fortunately, I got more sympathetic than annoyed looks from parents and employees.
Since that went well, I decided to continue on with not using Pull-Ups when we we were visiting with my brother and his family on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. She had no problems and no accidents. We’ve since made some trips to go shopping, visit family members and even got through Halloween with much success. (Though we did use a Pull-Up diaper on Halloween just in case.)

Some of the stickers have been double layered by my kiddo. I'm going to get her out a new sheet of paper this weekend to place them on.
Her reward chart has definitely grown. She loves getting stickers. The chart is missing quite a few that she’s gotten while at her grandparents’ houses or just not gotten when we were out places. She really likes using the restroom wherever we go. Combine that fact with my crazy bladder, and the good news is that I know where to find restrooms everywhere we are and which are the best ones to use.
We have had some accidents. There was Sunday night when we were getting ready for bed and she decided to sit on the couch to feed a baby doll instead of coming into the bathroom. I told her I’d be back in less than two minutes for her. I came back to find that my brand new couch was wet. I wasn’t a happy camper. But, everything cleaned right up. And yesterday, when we got detoured from coming home to go to the bathroom and get ready for nap time by my car battery needing replaced, she made it almost into the house before I saw her pants get wet.
She’s still figuring out the timing and signals to know how to do other business like a big girl. That’s our current challenge. I’d say right now, she’s about 75 percent potty trained. We are using diapers only at night and at nap time. I’m happy with that. She’s done well. We are able to get out of the house. I’m learning to trust her more. She’s learning to tell me ahead of time. It’s really starting to click.
I’m proud of my big girl!
