Summer plans

Recently I asked on Facebook for suggestions for blog topics.  The one I got was to write about my summer plans (thanks, Justin!).  That has gotten me thinking about what my summer plans actually are.  I am a person who plans things.  I have a list for everyday that is quite meticulous.  However, I realized I don’t really have a summer plan in place.  I’ve been thinking about it ever since.  Here is what I’ve come up with.

1. At some point when the weather stops being so bipolar, I will blow up Lexiana’s swimming pool.  I found it on clearance at Target last year and got her a pretty cool one.  She didn’t swim much last year, but I’m planning to change that this year.  Of course, that’s assuming that I can find swim diapers.  They were nowhere to be found at Walmart yesterday when I went grocery shopping.

2. We will pack up the kiddo and the dog and head south.  At some point this summer, we will find a way to get to our favorite vacation spot in Tennessee.  It will be a bit trickier since my husband is starting a new job, but even a long weekend will do.  Nothing soothes my heart and soul like Dale Hollow.

3. As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, we’ll ride around with the top down (and sometimes doors off) on the Jeep and enjoy the warm weather.  And, yes, I’ll crank the air conditioner for those times we’re stopped at stoplights.  I’ll have crazy hair, but I’ll be happy.

4. We’ll have a birthday party for our dog this month when he turns 6 on June 25.  My mother-in-law hosts this and makes a doggy cake and everything.  My in-laws have his brother and littermate, so it’s a big to-do.

5. Near the end of summer (and in conjunction with my 12th wedding anniversary), I’ll head to Gen Con Indy.  I’ll cover it for a publication or two and enjoy the gaming exhibits.

6. At some point, Lexiana and I will hit the local children’s museum.  We’ve been to a bigger one in a nearby city, but we’ve not been to our own.  I’d like to do that. On a high humidity, super hot day, this would be a great activity.

7. At another point, we’ll also go to a robot exhibit for kids at our nearby cultural center.  My husband and I think it sounds cool.  Hopefully Lexiana will agree.

8. We’ll celebrate birthdays.  June includes a LOT of birthdays for my family.  In July my triplet nephews turn 2 and in August my niece turns 4.  I’m looking forward to birthday cake — oh, and time with family.

9. We’ll cook out.  OK, we kind of do this year-round, but we definitely do it more in the summer.  My husband isn’t really a meat eater, but the man makes wonderful hamburgers and steaks on the grill even though he doesn’t eat them.

10. I’ll find some time, somehow, to sit on the patio and read my book to relax.  I love doing that.  It’s a bit harder these days with a toddler in the house.

11. At some point soon, I’ll applaud as my husband installs a ceiling fan in our dining room.  It’s been a long time coming.  We purchased said fan over the weekend.  Currently we have a chandelier in that room that is circa 1970.  It is positioned over our walking path in that room, so taller folks sometimes have to duck.  I can’t tell you how happy I’ll be to get rid of that.

12. And as summer ends, we’ll prepare to celebrate my daughter’s 2nd birthday on Oct. 2.  It’s beyond me to realize that she will turn 2 in a few months.  It may be cliche to say, but time really does fly.

It’s not really an exciting, adventure-filled summer, but it sounds pretty nice to me.  Right now I’m in the phase where I’m enjoying the fact that leaves and grass are green and the weather is warm.  I know in another month, I’ll be groaning about the heat and humidity.  I’ll take it for now, though.  And I’ll look forward to what the season will bring.

What do you have planned for this summer?
