A lonely trip

Yesterday I got the chance to go to the grocery store alone without Lexiana.  It had been a while since I’d made a regular grocery trip without her.  She really enjoys it.  She sits in the cart and happily babbles her way through the store, giving smiles to her adoring fans and waving at them.  But, thinking of going to the store and not having someone trying to grab my grocery list or ink pen didn’t sound too bad.

I pulled into a parking space that wasn’t right next to the cart corral.  I didn’t have to worry since I didn’t have a little one to transfer straight into a cart.  I took the long route into the store going through the front door instead of the side door.  It was a warmer day (near 40!) and I didn’t have to worry about a little one getting chilly.

My first stop was for an item near the pharmacy.  I left my cart to get it because it was crowded.  I marveled at how I could just pick up my purse and leave the cart unattended for a minute.  I can’t do that with my daughter in the cart.  I wandered over to the Christmas clearance section and meandered up and down the aisles.

That’s when it started.  I had no one to point out the sparkling ornaments to.  I had no one to complain to about the lady who almost ran me over with her cart.  I had no one to catch a quick snuggle with.  The rest of my shopping time was fine.  I got what we needed, but I missed my buddy.  I know time apart is good for both of us, and I have times where I long for some time apart when she gets nutty.  But, mostly, I enjoy her.

I am in love with my baby girl.  I have fun with her.  She’s good company.  I smile and laugh more when I’m with her running errands than I do when I’m alone.  I’m hoping it stays that way for a long time to come.
